Welcome to our pre-Christmas review of the best blogs related to the digital marketing industry over the last week. While there has been a lot of content related to the festive season and many prediction columns looking ahead to 2014, there has also been plenty of “as usual” posts, which is where Head of Content Karl Tippins kicks us off this week.
Karl has picked out an excellent article featured on Search Engine Journal that draws the reader in by making you think social media isn’t going to work, before the author goes on to explain the big “if” that comes at the end of that statement.
“Savvy digital marketers and SEO agencies have been telling clients and businesses for years that online success is about integrating all strategies so they complement and work alongside each other. That said the number of businesses that still seem to be persisting with various digital marketing initiatives, particularly social media, without thinking about how it fits in with their overall business plan and strategy is staggering. This is a great article that serves as a reminder to everyone who is blindly using social media without thinking about how it fits in with their wider strategy. Social media alone is not enough!”
SEO Account Manager Saleem Rawn has gone for a year-end review column from Search Engine Watch that looks at how SEO changed in 2013 in comparison to 2012, as well as offering lengthy and detailed predictions relating to how the digital marketing landscape will evolve further in 2014.
“This article is a great re-cap on some of the changes that have occurred in the past 2 years in regards to Google algorithm updates. It provides some great points on what has occurred and what direction Google is likely taking their search-engine in 2014, too. Reflection of past algorithm updates can be a great way for SEO professionals to determine what the behaviour of search-engines will most likely be like in the future.”
Our final article this week comes from SEO Account Manager Jack Withey, who has picked out a Search Engine Journal analysis of content marketing, specifically how big brands have used content marketing this year and the lessons that all business owners can learn from them.
“Content Marketing is the phrase on every SEO’s lips at the moment. This post gives some great examples of how large brands have used content marketing to their advantage.”
All that remains is for us to wish our regular blog of the week readers a relaxing and Merry Christmas. The blog of the week roundup is taking a break for two weeks over the festive period, so we’ll see you in January with an early look at what everyone is talking about in 2014.
