Bough Digital’s Blogs of the Week: Week Ending January 18th

Welcome to another weekly review of the best blogs and news articles from around the digital marketing industry, as chosen by the team at Bough SEO. Robert kicks us off this week.

Schema for SEO

Rather than pick out something from the past week, which is what we usually do, Robert has gone for a great piece that was featured on Search Engine Land at the end of October 2013. The article looks at the importance of using schema.org mark-up for SEO, and particularly why it is relevant to the Google Hummingbird algorithm upgrade that launched in August 2013 and was publicly announced the following month.

What Robert Says

“Schema.org is something that never gets utilised enough by webmasters, developers, and even SEO agencies in some instances. Using schema.org mark-up is such a massive part of SEO right now and has been proven to get results; SEO is increasingly becoming about how websites can collaborate with Google rather than fight against them in order to deliver an exceptional online experience for internet users. Anyone looking at driving SEO should now be using schema mark-up, especially now after Hummingbird, which aims to deliver the most relevant search results possible, something that schema.org was designed to help promote.”

Mobile Focused Content

Karl has chosen an article from the Content Marketing Institute as his must read for the week. This article looks at how to take a content strategy and focus it towards mobile platforms, both in terms of who to target and the types of content a business should be looking to produce.

What Karl Says

“If content is king then I don’t know what phrase we’ll have to use over the next few years to talk about mobile content, because it’s going to be massive. Anyone who is looking to master mobile content needs to read and bookmark this article, whether they’re putting content onto a responsive or mobile website or looking to develop an app for their clients and customers to use. A top article that gives an idea of the strategic way forward when it comes to mobile content.”

Mobile SEO

We move from mobile content to mobile SEO as Saleem has picked out this article from Marketing Land, which looks at why mobile SEO is such an important aspect of a fuller SEO strategy, as well as some useful tips for moving forward with a mobile SEO strategy.

What Saleem Says

“This is a great article that highlights the importance of implementing mobile SEO into the overall SEO strategy. Both SEO professionals, SEO clients, and indeed site owners and webmasters going it alone, will still need to determine based on website metrics whether focusing on mobile SEO will be feasible for them and how it will influence their overall traffic and conversions.”

Guest Posting in 2014

Our final articles comes from Jack and is a bumper look from Moz at how approaches to link building through guest posting have changed in recent years and how they still need to continue evolving in the year ahead. Sit down with a cup of coffee and prepare to take in a whole different strategy and re-learn everything you know, or thought you knew, about guest blogging.

What Jack Says

“Guest posting can be a great way to get external links but it seems the practice is dying a slow death. This article outlines why you should target authors for outreach instead of webmasters and build relationships rather than working with blogs and websites on a transaction basis.”
