Robert stole everyone’s thunder and picked out Google Penguin 2.1 as the big news story of the week. Last Friday’s launch, which was confirmed on Twitter by Matt Cutts, is set to have a profound effect on how SEO agencies and indeed on how anyone following an SEO strategy works.
There isn’t a specific article because they are everywhere, but you might want to read Search Engine Land’s analysis in addition to our own article that we linked to above. This analysis of “who got hit” from Search Engine Watch also features some good information.
“Google Penguin is an algorithm that is certainly now becoming uncompromising for firms that have cheated the system for years. The need to remain white-hat is now more prevalent than ever before.”
SEO Account Manager Jack Withey has picked up a post from the always useful and informative team over at Moz.com who accepted this terrific guest post that looks at mobile SEO. If you are looking to bring more customers to your business through mobile device use, you need to read this post!
“This post is a useful guide to mobile SEO strategy for small businesses, ranging from on page factors, responsive web design, and local search, all of which are becoming increasingly important for maximising mobile optimisation potential.”
SEO Account Manager Saleem Rawn has also gone for something from Moz. Saleem’s post looks at techniques that SEO agencies or content marketers might use in order to research topics for and create viral content. Incidentally, we published a shorter, more concise range of tips for creating viral content in our resources section earlier this week, too, which you can read here.
Back to the Moz post, however, and the reason Saleem liked it so much.
“This is a good article from Moz.com that highlights the processes which SEO’s can go through to research into the creation of viral online content and make their marketing more effective.”
Our final blog this week comes from Head of Content Karl Tippins, who has pulled out an article published by the Content Marketing Institute this week that looks at how webmasters and content marketers can make more of their content in light of the recent Google Hummingbird launch.
“Interesting that this article didn’t mention Google Penguin 2.1, even in passing, but nevertheless it is a useful guide to help businesses and content marketers remain focused on relevant content rather than initiatives that might seem fun but that ultimately deliver no ROI.”
